Helsinki is the capital and largest city in Finland and generates approximately 1/3 of Finland’s GDP. A majority (83%) of the top 100 Finnish companies, along with 70% of the foreign companies operating in Finland, have their headquarters in Helsinki and its surrounding areas. Helsinki is also Finland’s major political, education, financial, cultural and research centre. Helsinki was chosen to be the World Design Capital for 2012 by the International council of Societies of Industrial Design.
